Nailah
Nailah, Chicago born, got her start at a community college radio station
while still in high school. She found her love for music and on-air
reporting had found a home. After four years, leaving radio for
college, she earned a Bachelor in Arts. Soon after, Nailah developed her
own music & culture magazine, which allowed her to interview some of
the most talented local (Chicago) and successful mainstream artists in the
business, such as Kanye West, Dwele, Erykah Badu, Doug E. Fresh, Rev. Run
and many others. Nailah now teaches African History to elementary students,
works as a graphic designer and has returned to radio by hosting a show she
developed titled The Soulful Hour. The Soulful Hour is just that, an hour
extended that brings you the best in Neo Soul, Soulful Grooves, and Soulful
Hip-Hop. Nailah's goal is to change the way radio sounds, "Radio has always
programmed us to like a certain type of music. It's whatever they choose
to expose us to. It's whatever they deem "hot". The quality of music played
on popular radio is an example of how little real music is respected. The
Soulful Hour changes all of that. I know that I'm not the only person who
is craving for some quality music to be represented. Some consciousness,
some feel good, some soul stirring - that's not only what most of us want,
but its what we need."
