Who would have thought that a shy young girl that followed behind her
uncle would take her love for music farther than most? Not the people that
knew her back then. From wearing headphones on the bus to wearing headphone
talking on the mic, she is Foxi Lady Kaye Brown.
She initially had a love for DJing as a little girl. Fascinated with the
skills of Spinderella of Salt-N-Pepa, she never had to courage to act on
the love. She would ride around with her uncle in his truck getting a different
lesson in music everyday. From Sam Cooke to Motown to Hip-Hop she loved all
kinds of music.
In 2003 known to people who knew her most as Ty, she decided to pursue music
as a career. With the new career focus, came a new name,
Kenyatta
Brown. Kenyatta is her middle name and Brown is a family name.
Kenyatta met a young man by the name of Rod G Zee. Rod G Zee, CEO of Mophi
& MoFyne Records, LLC took her under his wing and began to show her the
fundamentals of producing. Producing was her new found excitement. After
making her first track she knew what most producers felt when putting there
heart into their music. Although she loved the feeling it wasn't her speed.
She is now the President of Mophi & MoFyne Records, LLC.
After careful consideration and the death of her Grandmother, Kenyatta decided
to go back to school for Broadcasting. The 27 year old, mother of one is
now an alumnus of the Illinois Center for Broadcasting.
As it got close for Kenyatta to start school in January 2005, she met a young
man by the name if DJ JMK. JMK had a show on an internet station called
ChicagoHouseRadio.com. JMK saw something in her and asked her to co-host
his show, Outside the Box. The show was based around interviews done by some
of House Music's contributing DJs. After one show JMK decided that Kenyatta
should host the show herself. She did the show until May of 2005.
Leaving ChicagoHouseRadio.com was not an easy thing for her to do. School
required Kenyatta to do an internship at a radio station. With the help of
Maurice Dortch, Kenyatta was able to get the opportunity to intern at one
of Chicago's hottest radio stations, Power 92, 92.3 FM. Kenyatta was able
to work with Chicago's own, Chi-Blizz, "Icing Out Your Airwaves. Chi-Blizz
dubbed her K.B for short. She would accompany Chi-Blizz to Club Jaguar while
he did a live broadcast. Chi-Blizz's segment called the Chicago Power Hour
sparked her love for independent artist. K.B. continued to help Chi-Blizz
even after her required time was up for her internship.
Time restraints with her daughter made it hard for her to continue at the
station so she had to leave. Right before school ended she was approached
by Soul Selector DJ Averi-Minor to co-host his show, Spin Club Radio. Kenyatta
had interviewed DJ Averi-Minor on her show for ChicagoHouseRadio.com. Spin
Club Radio is on WIIT, 88.9 FM, airing Tuesdays: 7pm - 10pm. It can also
be heard on the internet, www.radio.iit.edu. DJ Averi-Minor started introducing
Kenyatta to everyone as K. After sitting around talking one day Averi suggested
that she should spell K out to Kaye. Kaye has been doing the show ever since.
As a result of the show Averi dubbed her Foxi Lady Kaye Brown. A little fact
that most people don't know about Kaye is that she has started to learn her
first love, the art of DJing.
Along with doing Spin Club Radio, Kaye began to do her own show. A young
man by the name of Jody Dallas approached Kaye about doing her own show.
She called it Midday Madness. There were some ups and downs with Dallas so
it was best that Midday Madness be taken else where. Which lead up to the
re-air of Midday Madness on www.worldviberadio.net. Now JMK and Kaye are
teamed up again in 2006. When it's a good thing you leave it alone. JMK started
his own station in May of 2006 and asked Kaye to do a show. As a result of
the two of them teaming back up he made her Music Director of the station.
Along with Midday Madness, Kaye decided to start a new show called Perfection
Music Radio. It's dedicated to Independent Artist and Labels. The show was
started prematurely so be on the look out for the Launch of Perfection Music
Radio in the fall of 2006.
Perfection Music Radio is in part of a company that Kaye is the President.
Perfection Music was founded by CEO and friend Enigma.
From President of Mophi & MoFyne Records, LLC to Music Director of World
Vibe Radio Network to President of Perfection Music to Future Star DJ and
now Promoter! You can expect to see Kaye Brown on the scene for years to
come.
